Texas Hill Country
Texas Hill Country is located deep in the heart of Texas. Covering 14,000 square miles, Hill Country is home to some of the finest that the Lonestar State has to offer. Central Texas has something for everyone. In the summers, people enjoy the many local natural attractions, like our springs and rivers. Some of the state’s fastest growing cities are located here, in the Central Texas area, including Austin. Fredericksburg is just one of the many towns located in Texas Hill Country. Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg is known for its German heritage and shows this strong influence of German architecture in the many Sunday Houses. Much pride is taken in its beautiful yards and flowerbeds. A strong work ethic and a history of volunteering and supporting the community are evident in the many events held here. There is something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you like to participate in the event by volunteering your time. Delight in showing guests the community and its spirit or just staying at home and enjoying the beautiful weather anyone can find something to keep them busy.
Volunteers and their help are always welcomed in our community. There are many festivals plus area sites that are always looking for volunteers. The community actively supports many service organizations and they are always looking for willing members.
The Golden Hub Senior center is very involved in the community. Lunch is served at the Center and they have a wonderful Meals-On-Wheels program, consisting of volunteers delivering meals to seniors who are homebound.
The youth of the community are kept very active. There is a Youth Center for grades six through twelve. Many different sports programs are offered for the youth combined with an active middle school and high school program.
Fredericksburg is fortunate to have a strong regional privately owned hospital. HCMH is a 61-bed facility and has had many expansions. In addition they provide an impressive array of medical services. Over 48 physicians offer the best in health care to the area with 38 consulting/courtesy staff members offering 27 field of specialty. As part of the hospital's commitment to provide preventative health care services they have a well-equipped Wellness Center with exercise equipment, massage therapy suite, cardiac rehab area, wellness checks and a 10,000 square foot indoor aquatic facility. They also have a registered dietician on staff.
Our highly acclaimed Fredericksburg Independent School District continues to expand its facilities. There are also several private and parochial schools in the area. Students compete regularly at regional and state levels in UIL competitions in academic, athletic, music and agricultural programs. The high school has been nominated for a National Blue Ribbon designation.
Blessed with abundant sunshine, the higher altitude of Fredericksburg offers noticeable cooler temperatures with less humidity than the rest of the central Texas Hill Country. Annual average rainfall is 30 inches with only traces of snowfall. Annual average temperatures are 67 degrees (January 48 and Jul 82). Elevation is 1742 feet with prevailing winds from the southwest.
There is a very active Newcomers club. They have a monthly potluck dinner; couples and ladies bridge games, study groups, creative writing group and many other activities. They are always looking for new members to join them.
Fredericksburg is noted for its love of music and has many wonderful concerts presented throughout the year by the Music Study Club. There is an active Fredericksburg Chorale and children's Chorals with many talented musicians including two German choirs. Fredericksburg Theatre Group presents about four to five plays annually with very professional talent. The Rockbox Theatre is a professional variety live music show for all ages. Perfomances are on weekends.
A general aviation airport with a 4600 foot lighted runway serves Fredericksburg. The luxurious Hangar Hotel and Diner is set near the airport to service your travel needs.
Lady Bird Johnson Park has an excellent championship 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, softball facilities, as well as swimming, fishing, camping, and picnic facilities.
Voluntary Recycling center run by the city is the envy of many other small communities. And to top it off, the yearly calendar is jammed with festivals and events including Night in Old Fredericksburg, Oktoberfest, the state's oldest, continuous county fair and Weihnachten. The fairgrounds also provide a summertime pari-mutuel horseracing schedule.
