When we decided to move to the Hill Country from Virginia, we went online to find a realtor.  By great good luck, we chose Mimi Bartel at Century 21 in Fredericksburg.  With only a few days to find a home with land that would accommodate our horses, Mimi showed us several terrific properties.  We fell in love with some undeveloped land, and Mimi gave us the confidence to believe we could have a contractor build a home for us, something we had NEVER thought of doing.

Peggy and I had decided that Gillespie County was the pre-eminent location for our second house/retirement house, so we talked with local people about realtors. Century 21 was highly regarded, so we went to see the folks there.

John Kuker introduced himself and proceeded to acquaint himself with us and our desires in property. Within 3 days he had shown us several choices within our tight parameters, and we made an offer, which was accepted after negotiation and John's input.

Next was the house plan and builder - no problem! John and Mae Casey introduced us to builders and their work, and Tony Lopez was tops for us. Tony is clever enough that Peggy could draw new designs for existing plans and he could make building drawings into beautiful buildings, which he did for us but with an unforeseen turn.

After finalizing the building contract, I became quite ill for an extended time. Mae and John picked up the slack, and sent us pictures (almost daily!)of our house as it rose from the limestone ground.(the picture taking was not part of the contract, just dedication to task on Mae and John's part).

When you spend most of your life in business, you develop a feel for people. Thus when the time for closing came I had no difficulty in signing checks and the mortgage, even thought I never saw the house until after closing!!! I judged rightly that John and Mae had done it right, and of course they had!
